Grilled Gnocchi
Posted by in SidesAs you may have noticed, I’ve been doing a lot of grilling lately. It gets so hot in my kitchen, and if I turn on the ceiling fan, it affects the gas burners on my stove, making things cook slower. Turning the oven on is just not appealing in this weather, so the grill is my pal. My latest experiment was to see if I could cook gnocchi on the grill. Guess what? It worked! It has this great smoky flavor and a terrific crunchiness. Everyone loved it!
1 lb bag of gnocchi, defrosted
2 green onions, ends cut off
olive oil
Parmesan cheese
Turn the grill onto high. Place a disposable metal pan (like a pie pan) on half and fill with 2 cups water. Let that get hot. Spray a grill tray or grill basket with cooking spray. Toss the gnocchi with olive oil (a couple tablespoons) and place it on the tray in on layer. Place that on the other half of the grill. Rub the green onions with olive oil and lay on the grill. Turn the gnocchi side down to medium high. Close the grill. Check it about every 4-5 minutes, turning the gnocchi over and turning the onions. It takes about 10-12 minutes total, until some of the gnocchi is browned and the green onions are slightly charred. Place the gnocchi in a bowl. Cut up the green onions into small pieces. Drizzle olive oil over the gnocchi, add onions, season with salt and pepper and add about 1/2 cup (or more, to your taste) grated Parmesan cheese. Toss and serve.

I love summer and grilling. The grill is just as much a part of our lives as the lake. I’ve found that we can cook just about anything we cook inside in the winter on the grill in the summer. I even use the big Weber to bake.
I would love to try baking on the grill.
I never would have thought to grill gnocchi. What an excellent idea!!
Wow. This is not just out of the box … it’s out of the oven too. Very creative way to cook this summer. Sounds and looks terrific.
I love just about anything grilled but would NEVER have considered that gnocchi qualified as a food you could grill. Have to try this one!
I struggle with gnocchi, because I love them but I try not to eat potatoes because I’m trying to eat low on the glycemic index. But my daughter loves them, so I will try this recipe on her!
Do you know that I’ve never had gnocchi, grilled or otherwise?
It is one of my favorite comfort foods!
I must be the only Aussie who doesn’t own a grill. And my kitchen gets super hot on real summer days too (we only have a few of those in summer in the Bay Area).
Grilled gnocchi: Never would have thought of that. Might just have to try it.
This is my kind of gnocchi. I love this idea!!
Can’t imagine anything more perfect than grilled gnocchi. Why didn’t I think of that? Oh, that’s right, I can’t cook. Will pass it on to the cook I’m married to, though.
We’ve pan fried gnocchi before, but not grilled it. Gonna have to try that!
So innovative and fun…I’m thinking this not only tastes good but is a good conversation starter at a party!
