Martha Mondays: Chicken and Dumplings
Posted by in FoodAna at Sweet Almond Tree chose Chicken and Dumplings for this week. I grew up eating chicken and biscuits. I’ve had chicken and dumplings at The Cracker Barrel, but those are rolled, flat dumplings. I actually have the recipe for those and have made it from time to time. I don’t think I’ve ever had drop dumplings before, so this was a new thing to try. This was essentially like making chicken soup, or the base for chicken and biscuits, except I normally don’t use turnips and parsnips. When I make chicken and biscuits, I thicken it with flour. This remains thin, like a soup. The dumplings were easy to make and puffed up so prettily in the pot. It was almost like eating matzoh ball soup in a way, but the dumplings are lighter than that. We really enjoyed this. I would definitely make this again as alternative to chicken soup or chicken and biscuits. It was better the second day, since the broth thickened a bit from the dumplings.

The recipe looks so comforting! Perfect for a wintery day. When you have the time, do drop by my space. I’d love to hear from you.
I didn’t make this as I didn’t have time to fit it in at the weekend (I honestly don’t know where you find the time Brette!)
I will however, make this in January. It looks perfect for a cold winter’s evening.
I hope you are well.
I’m making mine tonight 🙂
I was thinking the same thing Pru. Brette where do you find the time? I didn’t get a chance to make mine yet either. Hope to soon.
It helps knowing what the project at least 5 days ahead. If it’s a dinner thing, it just gets made as part of a dinner that week. If it’s a dessert or non-dinner thing, I usually make it on Saturday or Sunday when I have some free time. Craft projects usually require Mr. MarthaAndMe’s assistance, which lands those on weekends too. I’m feeling crushed this time of year plus it is not helping that I am dealing with some kidney stones (I get tiny ones so I am not curled up in a ball crying, but am mighty uncomfortable) right now. My posts for the next couple of weeks might be light.
Well, I made this but didn’t care for the dumplings at all. Oh well.
