Basement Gardening Update
Posted by in GardeningI think we can now unquestionably say I have a black thumb. Mr. MarthaAndMe got me one of those hydroponic self-contained little gardens for Christmas and I am attempting to grow herbs. One month after we got it started, I have one little pot that did not do anything, 3 that are slumped over and dead and one that grew (basil). Mr. MarthaAndMe took it apart and determined the pump is broken, so we’re ordering a new one. I’ve transplanted the basil (the only survivor) into a little pot in my kitchen. I’m clearly cursed.

Don’t lose hope, you’ll still have your own fresh-grown basil to use in all you great recipes 🙂 Keep trying!
I’m the same way; can’t grow much at all. I keep thinking I need to have a big pot with herbs in it in my backyard, because I use a lot of parsley and cilantro. Maybe I’ll put my daughter in charge of it and see if she has a greener thumb than I do. 🙂
Sounds like a good solution!
That is so weird, because the one we have is growing everything like crazy. I can’t use the mint, basil, chives or oregano fast enough. We have to take cuttings off and put them in water. Now ours is beside the kitchen window so gets lots of light even when the grow lights aren’t on. Are you putting in the supplements with the water? Mine is the AeroGarden and looks exactly like yours. Try moving it out of the basement to a window spot. Good Luck!
The pump broke. It wasn’t sending water to the plants. So we’ve ordered a new one. Once it comes, hopefully it will work.
I agree! It’s not you! You just have to keep trying!
Having fresh herbs at your fingertips would be oh, so nice. So, don’t give up. It’s not your fault, it’s the pump 🙂 Try, try again – I’d like to learn how to do it myself!
Eh, that’s how all of my gardens turn out, even the ones outdoors. I’ve managed to kill tomato plants and I understand and that they are supposed to be indestructible.
